Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and chopped yellow onion. Cook, breaking up the turkey, until browned and onion is softened, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Stir in chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in 1/2 cup water and bring to a simmer. Cook for 3-4 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and flavors to combine.
  4. While the turkey cooks, warm flour tortillas according to package directions.
  5. In a small saucepan, gently warm the rinsed and drained black beans over low heat, or microwave for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Set out the warm tortillas, seasoned turkey, shredded cheddar cheese, salsa, and pre-shredded lettuce for assembly.
  7. Allow everyone to build their own turkey tacos.

Notes

Ensure your salsa is finely diced or smooth to avoid large tomato chunks, matching your family's preferences. For extra convenience, pre-minced garlic can be used instead of garlic powder.
