Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 lean)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
- 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slice cheddar cheese
- 4 Romaine lettuces (large leaves)
- 1 Roma tomato (sliced)
- 0.25 red onion (thinly sliced)
- 16 ounce French fries
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 0.5 cup ketchup
- 0.25 cup mustard
Instructions
- Preheat your oven or air fryer to the temperature recommended on the package for the frozen French fries. Arrange the French fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or in the air fryer basket.
- While the oven preheats, in a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, cayenne pepper (if using), 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and form them into patties, about 1 inch thick.
- Place the French fries in the preheated oven or air fryer and cook according to package directions, usually 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispiness. Season with the remaining 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt after cooking.
- While the fries cook, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the beef patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer to your desired doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each burger to melt. Meanwhile, lightly toast the hamburger buns on the skillet or under the broiler until golden.
- Assemble the burgers: place a beef patty on each toasted bun, then layer with Romaine lettuce leaves, sliced Roma tomato, and thinly sliced red onion. Serve immediately with the crispy French fries, ketchup, and mustard.
Notes
Toppings are customizable – feel free to add pickles, bacon, or your favorite burger sauces. If using an air fryer, you may need to cook fries in batches.
