  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the lean ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Add the diced yellow onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onion softens, about 5 minutes. Stir in the chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, kosher salt, black pepper, and chipotle powder. Cook for 1 minute more, until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the rinsed and drained black beans and beef broth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly. Meanwhile, prepare the slaw.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the thinly shredded green cabbage, mayonnaise, and fresh lime juice. Toss to coat. If desired, stir in the chopped fresh cilantro.
  5. To assemble, spread a layer of the beef and bean mixture onto each corn tostada shell. Top with a generous spoonful of the cabbage slaw and sliced or mashed avocado. Serve immediately.
