Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, 1 teaspoon of the salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of the black pepper. Form into 5 equally sized patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-6 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.
  3. While the burgers cook, prepare the potato salad. In a medium bowl, combine the quartered new potatoes, finely chopped celery, 1/4 cup of the thinly sliced red onion, mayonnaise, yellow mustard, dill pickle relish, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of the black pepper. Mix gently to combine.
  4. Lightly toast the hamburger buns, if desired. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on each bun, then topping with a Romaine lettuce leaf, a Roma tomato slice, and additional thinly sliced red onion.
  5. Serve the Smoky BBQ Beef Burgers immediately with the Quick Potato Salad and a side of mixed green salad with Ranch dressing.

Notes

Leftover potato salad keeps well for 2-3 days in the refrigerator. Patties can be cooked on an outdoor grill for extra smoky flavor.
