Ingredients
- 1 pound sirloin steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 0.5 tablespoon chili powder
- 0.5 tablespoon ground cumin
- 0.5 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder
- 0.25 teaspoon onion powder
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
- 0.5 lime (juiced)
- 1 yellow bell pepper (sliced)
- 1 red bell pepper (sliced)
- 1 yellow onion (sliced)
- 1 avocado (sliced)
- 2 tablespoon fresh cilantro (chopped)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine sirloin steak slices with chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and kosher salt. Squeeze in the juice from 1/2 lime and toss to coat evenly. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes at room temperature, or up to 30 minutes.
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Add sliced yellow and red bell peppers and yellow onion to the skillet. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until vegetables are tender-crisp and slightly charred. Remove vegetables from the skillet and set aside.
- Increase heat to high. Add the marinated steak to the hot skillet in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan (cook in batches if necessary). Sear for 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer for desired doneness.
- Return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet with the cooked steak. Toss everything together briefly to combine and heat through.
- Serve the sizzling steak fajita skillet immediately, topped with sliced avocado and fresh chopped cilantro. Enjoy as a bowl or with low-carb tortillas/lettuce wraps.
Notes
To further enhance flavor, let the steak marinate for an hour or two in the refrigerator. Use a very hot cast iron skillet for the best sear on the steak.
