Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1.5 pound ground beef (85/15 lean)
- 0.5 cup yellow onion (diced)
- 3 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon ginger (freshly grated)
- 0.5 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 0.25 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cup instant white rice
- 2 cup water
- 4 green onions (sliced)
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the 1 1/2 pounds ground beef and 1/2 cup diced yellow onion. Cook, breaking up the beef, until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
- Drain any excess fat. Stir in 3 cloves minced garlic and 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
- Pour the sauce over the beef mixture in the skillet. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce slightly thickens and coats the beef.
- While the beef simmers, prepare the 2 cups instant white rice according to package directions using 2 cups water.
- Divide the prepared instant white rice among 7 bowls. Top with the Korean ground beef and garnish generously with sliced green onions.
- Serve immediately.
