  1. Heat 1 teaspoon olive oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add 1 sliced link of sweet Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up slightly, until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove sausage from skillet and set aside, reserving a tablespoon of drippings.
  2. Add 1/2 sliced bell pepper and 1/4 sliced yellow onion to the skillet with any reserved drippings. Sauté for 5 minutes, until vegetables are tender-crisp. Add 1/2 clove minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  3. Stir in 1/4 cup crushed tomatoes, 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano, 1/4 teaspoon dried basil, 2 tablespoons water, 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, and a pinch of black pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Return the cooked Italian sausage to the skillet and stir to combine. Simmer for 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Serve immediately with 1 small slice of warm or toasted Italian bread to soak up the delicious sauce.

Notes

Add a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese on top for extra flavor.
