Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1.5 pound ground beef (lean)
- 1 yellow onion (finely diced)
- 2 clove garlic (minced)
- 0.5 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 head butter lettuce
- 1 cup carrots (shredded)
- 0.5 cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef and 1 finely diced yellow onion. Cook, breaking up the beef, until browned and crispy, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in 2 cloves minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add 1/2 cup hoisin sauce, 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, and 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to coat the beef. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens.
- Separate leaves from 1 head butter lettuce. Serve the beef mixture in lettuce cups, topped with 1 cup shredded carrots and 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro, as desired.
Notes
For extra crispiness, ensure the ground beef gets well browned before adding sauce. Water chestnuts or bamboo shoots can be added for extra crunch.
