- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef (lean)
- 0.5 cup yellow onion (finely diced)
- 0.5 cup green bell pepper (finely diced)
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 can tomato sauce (8-ounce)
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 hamburger buns (toasted)
- 2 cup potato chips
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
- Add the diced yellow onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the beef. Cook for 5-7 minutes, until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more, until fragrant.
- Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
- Toast the hamburger buns while the sloppy joe mixture simmers.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously onto the toasted buns. Serve immediately with potato chips on the side.
Notes
You can add a dash of your favorite hot sauce to the mixture for a little extra kick.
