Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together reduced-sodium soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, coarse black pepper, cornstarch, and low-sodium vegetable broth until the cornstarch is completely dissolved.
  2. Heat 1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat until shimmering. Add the plant-based steak bites and sear undisturbed for 2 minutes to develop a deep brown crust, then toss and sear for 1 to 2 minutes more until heated through. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Add the remaining 1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil to the skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced red bell pepper and yellow onion, stir-frying for 3 minutes until tender-crisp.
  4. Add the minced garlic, minced fresh ginger, and green onions. Stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Return the plant-based steak bites to the pan. Pour in the prepared sauce mixture and toss continuously for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce bubbles and thickens into a glossy glaze coating the steak and vegetables.
  6. Remove from heat, drizzle with toasted sesame oil, and toss to combine before dividing evenly between two bowls to serve.

Notes

Packs well for lunch and reheats thoroughly in 90 seconds without losing texture.
