Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 lean)
- 1 yellow onion (medium, chopped)
- 2 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 0.5 teaspoon dried basil
- 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 28 ounce crushed tomatoes (canned)
- 2 cup water
- 8 ounce spaghetti (broken into halves)
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
- 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
- 2 slice garlic bread (store-bought)
- 2 cup mixed green salad (pre-washed)
- 2 tablespoon Italian dressing
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in chopped yellow onion and minced garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the onion softens and garlic is fragrant.
- Add dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir for 1 minute.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and water (or beef broth). Bring to a simmer.
- Add the broken spaghetti to the skillet, stirring to submerge it in the sauce. Cover and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is al dente and most liquid is absorbed. If needed, add a splash more water during cooking.
- While pasta simmers, prepare the garlic bread according to package instructions. Toss mixed green salad with Italian dressing.
- Remove skillet from heat. Stir in grated Parmesan cheese. Serve hot with garlic bread and green salad.
Notes
For best results, use quick-cooking spaghetti if available, or break regular spaghetti into smaller pieces. Leftovers reheat well.
