  1. Heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Stir chili powder, ground cumin, 1/8 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper into the beef. Cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.
  3. While beef cooks, prepare microwaveable brown rice according to package instructions (typically 90 seconds).
  4. Add rinsed and drained canned black beans to the skillet with the beef and cook until heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. To assemble the bowl, place brown rice at the bottom. Top with the seasoned beef and black beans. Garnish with diced avocado, chopped fresh cilantro, and salsa (if using).
